SICILY, THE CARTHAGINIANS IN SICILY AND NORTH AFRICA. Siculo-Punic Issues. Uncertain Mint in Sicily ("People of the Camp"), circa 320-315 BC. AR Tetradrachm (26mm, 16.88 g, 9h). Head of Arethusa or Tanit-Persephone left, wearing wreath of grain ears, triple-pendant earring, and necklace; dolphin and caduceus before on left field / Head of horse left; palm tree with clusters of dates on field right; "MM" in Punic characters beneath neck truncation.
Jenkins, Punic Sicily, O68/R192, but this Die-Coupling is unrecorded; Boston 495, but ONLY this obverse die. (RRR) !!!
PROBABLY UNIQUE, as this Die-Pairing is apparently unpublished !!!
SPLENDID and VERY RARE PORTRAIT OF Arethusa or Tanit-Persephone in high Relief from ARTISTIC DIE in one of the FINEST STYLES of the Period for this Coinage.
Struck well centered on broad flan of sound metal, lightly toned.
A MARVELOUS COIN from an EXTREMELY RARE DIES COMBINATION with STUNNING PORTRAIT in HIGH RELIEF and in the FINEST STYLE of the HELLENISTIC PERIOD for this Type of Coinage. Among the BEST and FINEST of all Siculopunic Tetradrachms known!
