Edward III Fourth Coinage Pre-Treaty Period AD 1351 to 61.
Series C / D Mule Penny - Mint London.
Mintmark = Cross 1
Obverse: Crowned Bust facing
+EDWARDVS REX ANGLI
Hooked A in Edward. No stops / Roman N reversely barred (Reverse barred N's = Series C)
Reverse: Long cross quartered by trefoil of pellets - annulet in each quarter.
CIVI TAS LON DON - Roman N's unbarred (Typical of Series D reverse)
LA Lawrence records this mule with no stops in the obverse legend but without the hooked A - LAL C3/D3 see Coinage of Edward III Plate V No 55;
however, a hooked A Obverse legend without stops is recorded by LAL for a true Series C Penny (LAL 6/6) therefore this mule combination is otherwise unrecorded.
