As Aelius - Salus
AELIUS (under HADRIAN). Æ As. Rome, 137 AD.
Obv. AELIVS CAESAR Bare head right
Rev. SALVS TR POT COS II SC Salus seated left on chair, feeding from patera serpent arising from altar.
C. 45 (8F)
Nice untouched natural patina with earthern deposits. Sharp strike, exceptional portrait.
The uneven and quite thin edge make this coin an As rather than a Dupondius. This implies that both Asses and Dupondii were issued for the Salus reverse type (thanks Curtis).
