Damn you...........I was up at 4am in the morning last week specifically to bid on this coin............I slept on the couch so the alarm would not wake the family...............I gave up somewhere around 2,100 CHF......

 

Out of all the collectors in the world.............you get it.

 

If I am bidding against the likes of you..........I throw up my hands and concede defeat. I can't put words to my frustration.

Sorry you missed out on this coin. I really wanted it and, as you can see, paid a lot for it. I probably paid too much. Nonetheless, I'm very pleased to have been able to add it to my collection. Feel free to visit it any time you like. You have good taste. -c

My taste exceeds my wallet. I was actually going to post something the next day about my disappointment and the fact that the bid sailed to 13 times estimate.

 

I am about to walk into a meeting and I can't get it out of my head that you own the coin. Well..........at least I "sort of" know the collector. ;-)

 

Kudos..........this is a truly incredible coin.

It's not a bad portrait, but I especially love the reverse. I knew when I saw the estimate that this coin would go for much more unless there was something terribly wrong with it that didn't show up in the picture. There wasn't. -c

Wow, great coin! Almost made me want to come back to roman... this, and your superb Diocletian Argenteus! Probably exactly how a cuirass looked. And a choice Trajan portrait, as well, with great provenance, too. I seem to remember this coin being in an earlier NAC sale, too. If I come across it, I'll let you know.

I found the coin I mentioned, but it's not yours. The same type, but not quite as nice as yours, is in NAC 25.
