TRAJAN PATER. AR Denarius of Rome. Struck c.A.D.115 - 117 under Trajan. Obverse: IMP TRAIANVS AVG GER DAC P M TR P COS VI P P. Laureate and draped bust of Trajan facing right. Reverse: DIVVS PATER TRAIAN. Trajan's father seated facing left, holding patera and sceptre. RIC II : 252 | VM : 17 | RCV II : 3323 This coin commemorates the consecration of Trajan's father and was one of the issues struck in connection with Trajan's Parthian War. During his governorship of Syria in A.D.75, Trajan's father had earned the ornamenta triumphalia by defeating a Parthian invasion. He subsequently governed Asia and died sometime before A.D.100.
