As Agrippa - local imitation
Model after GAIUS CALIGULA for Agrippa. Æ "As". local mint, 37-41 AD or time of Claudius.
Obv. AGRIPPA L. F. COS III Head of Agrippa left, wearing rostral crown
Rev. SC Neptune standing left, holding small dolphin and trident.
Interesting imitation (struck in Gaul?) with a good style; size and pose of Neptun on reverse are not faithful.
Local coinage circulated widely in some provinces like Gaul or Britain during the 1st cent. AD until Nero.
For an interesting sample of coinage circulating in Gaul during this period, see the Condé-sur-Aisne find study ("Le pèlerinage gallo-romain de Condé-sur-Aisne et ses monnaies", Jean-Baptiste Giard, Revue Numismatique, 1968).
