SICILY, Leontini. Circa 470-460 BC. AR Tetradrachm (17.30 g). Charioteer driving walking quadriga right, Nike flying above crowning horses; LEONTINON in exergue / Head of a roaring lion right; four barley grains around. SNG ANS 204 (same reverse die): Boehringer 24 (same dies); Randazzo 87 (same reverse die); Rizzo pl. 22, 17 (same dies); Jameson 622 (same reverse die); Basel -; Pozzi 463 (same reverse die). Lightly toned, nice VF. Very rare issue. This is the last issue of archaic tetradrachm from Leontini. Two die combinations of this issue are known with the ethnic on the obverse in the exergue as opposed to on the reverse around the lion's head. Two obverse dies are recorded, paired with one reverse die.
