Battle of the Milvian Bridge

IMP CONSTANTINVS P F AVG, laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right / LIBER-A-TOR ORBIS, Constantine on horseback right, right hand raised, holding large round shield on left arm, riding down lion below horse; R*T. RIC -; Failmezger 234 var. (no shield); Maurice pg. 215, pl. xviii, 4; Cayon 356; Cohen 317. A Very Rare variety struck to celebrate Constantine's victory of Maxentius at the Milvian Bridge. For some reason the type was left out of RIC even though it was recorded by both Cohen and Maurice. Examples are recorded by Maurice from officinas P, S, T and Q. The type is also recorded for Licinius I from officina T. The Failmezger specimen is from officina P. Cayon and Maurice both illustrate examples from officina Q. None of the examples from officina P and Q show the emperor holding a shield and it appears to be restricted to officina T. I have not seen a photo of a specimen from officina S.
