Pilgrims Ampullae
13 / 15th century AD
Sold at places of religious pilgrimage they contained holy water from the shrine visited. They could be carried around the neck by passing a cord through the two handles. It is thought that they were emptied on the agricultural fields as a blessing for a good harvest.
