Pilgrims Ampullae

Vepcorf

13 / 15th century AD Sold at places of religious pilgrimage they contained holy water from the shrine visited. They could be carried around the neck by passing a cord through the two handles. It is thought that they were emptied on the agricultural fields as a blessing for a good harvest. Found between 1999-2007
