AR C. Calpurnius Piso L.f. Frugi Denarius 67 B.C. (3.87g)
Married Tullia, daughter of Cicero, in 63 B.C. Quaestor in 58 B.C. The obverse of this type commemorates the role of the Calpurnius Piso family in the institution of the Ludi Apollinares in 212 B.C. at the height of Hannibal’s invasion of Italy in the 2nd Punic war. In 67 B.C. Pompey swiftly and decisively defeated the pirates in the Meditarranean.
