Aspendos, Pamphylia (unknown magistrate)

cogito

Aspendos, Pamphylia (unknown, magistate; 200-100 BC.) AE 19 Obv: ΠO monogram inside dotted circular shield. Rev: Right-running triskeles. Attribution: SNG France 142-143 Provenance: ex. Stacks Coin Galleries (lot#157), 12.14.05 Weight: 4.49 gm Maximal Diameter: 18.98 mm Axis: 12 Note: Previously misattributed to Selge, Pisidia in BMC and Head's Historia Numorum, these PO monogram shield issues are now recognized as being native to Aspendos. Though somewhat speculative the PO monogram on these AE issues, as well as on AR staters of the period, likely represent an unknown Pamphylian magistrate. GK214
