Lucius Verus. A.D. 161-169. Æ medallion (39 mm, 45.92 g). Rome, ca. A.D. 165-166. L VERVS AVG ARM PART MAX, laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right / TR P VI IMP III COS II, Lucius Verus standing left on platform, accompained by the Praetorian Prefect and a soldier, about to introduce the young Commodus, standing before him, to four soldiers, holding vexilla, insigna and shields. Gnecchi p. 46, 15, pl. 74, 1; Toynbee pl. XLII, 4; Cohen 288. Very rare and of great histocal interest. A powerful portrait struck in very high relief and a finely detailed reverse representation. The obverse fields slightly tooled and the hair on top of head partially re-engraved, otherwise extremely fine.
