CIVI/ TAS/ LOII/ DOII - unbarred Roman N's
Series F is the only mintage of Edward III
where the mintmark is a Crown rather than a Cross.
The issue was only a very short one running from January to March or April 1356
The unbarred Roman N lettering and the absence of Annulets between the pellets on the reverse is typical of Series F.
This short lived series with the telltale Crown mintmark proves to have a pivotal role in determining the arrangement of the Pre-Treaty coinage. Mules appear frequently in the preceding & succeeding series E & G with true coins being fairly scarce.
