Edward III Series F Penny - London

Edward III Series F Penny - Mint London Obv: Crowned bust facing Mint mark Crown EDWARDVSoREXoANGLIo Unbarred Roman N's and Annulet stops Rev: Long cross quartered by trefoil of pellets CIVI/ TAS/ LOII/ DOII - unbarred Roman N's Series F is the only mintage of Edward III where the mintmark is a Crown rather than a Cross. The issue was only a very short one running from January to March or April 1356 The unbarred Roman N lettering and the absence of Annulets between the pellets on the reverse is typical of Series F. This short lived series with the telltale Crown mintmark proves to have a pivotal role in determining the arrangement of the Pre-Treaty coinage. Mules appear frequently in the preceding & succeeding series E & G with true coins being fairly scarce. LAL 1/1 North 1176 SCBC 1587 Bought Ebay December 2017. Wt 1.04 gms
