This use of pellet stops in the obverse only occurs in the very early Groats of Series B.
Lawrence considered that the reverse die of this type had pellets overcut over the Crowns placed in the quarters of the earliest iterations of Series B Groats.
It is clear that below the pellets of the DON - CIVI & TAS quarters shows the Crown undertype design and thus this coin compares
favourably with Lord Stewartby's Series B Groat (Lot 1093 of the Academic Collection Sale - see English Coins 1180 - 1551 Plate 12 No 257)
which is accepted having pellets over cutting 'Crowns' in the quarters. As such this coin is Extremely Rare.
