Richard II AD 1377 to 99 Type IIIA Penny (York) Late Period (1390 / 99) Obv: Crowned bust facing;cross or Lis on breast. Legend: (RI)CARD xx REX xx ANGL xx Z xxF(RAN) Double Saltire Stops. Top segment of coin missing. Rev: Long cross quartered by trefoil of pellets - Quatrefoil with central pellet in centre of cross; note the top right arm of the cross is slightly off centre where it meets the central Quatrefoil; a trait noted by Purvey for all type III Pence of York. Legend: CI(VI/TAS*)/EBOR/ACI xx Double Saltire Stops after ACI and Scallop? after TAS. See Lord Stewartby's English Coins 1180 - 1551 Plate 15 No 303 for a good example of the scallop after TAS.
