Stolen CT USA 11-2012 Ptolemy I Soter as satrap Tetradrachm
Contact me if found. Ptolemaic Kingdom. Ptolemy I Soter, as satrap. (323–305/4 BC). Silver tetradrachm (15.65 gm). Uncertain Egyptian mint, ca. 305–ca. 304 BC. Head of the deified Alexander right with horn of Ammon, wearing mitra and elephant headdress merging with aegis tied around neck / AΛΕΞΑΝ?ΡΟΥ, Athena Promachos striding right, brandishing spear in right hand and holding round shield in left, ?ΗΙ monogram in inner left field, in right field KE monogram and eagle standing right on thunderbolt. Svoronos 139, pl. v, 16–17. SNG Copenhagen 23. Elegant and beautiful obverse, with the elephant’s trunk resembling an Egyptian uraeus. Tiny scratch behind Alexander’s eye. Mint state/nearly mint state.
