Boniface or Flavio Ardabur Aspar in the name of Valentinian III?, AE4, 427? or 432-435?, North Africa? or Anonymous Issue possibly after the death of Valentinian III, AE4, Rome (?) INBICTI[SSIMO] Pearl-diademed, draped, cuirassed bust right TOV / VX Legend enclosed within wreath terminating in large pellet 11mm x 13mm, 1.70g RIC X, -- Note: RIC 2167 and associated footnotes all have variations of the INBICTISSIMO obverse or reverse legend, but a reverse type of Victory advancing left with wreath and palm-branch, sometimes with cross in field. The retrograde reverse legend on this piece begs the question if this is an official coin engraved incorrectly or an imitative type copying an excessively rare official issue. More recent research suggests this coin may be a product of North Africa in the name of Valentinian III, but is even more unusual as the INBICTISSIMO legend may be attested to Boniface, but the known TOV / VX reverse is more likely Flavio Ardabur Aspar. Certainly an intriguing coin and requires much more research and deserves publication.
