S: WK Raymond, House of Seleukos, eBay 2/12/99 Until recently, all the coinage struck by Ptolemy I with the name and image of Alexander the Great was thought to have been struck before he officially took the title of king in 305 BC, and was therefore classified as "satrapal" coinage. More recent research, advanced in an article by Cathy Lorber in the 2005 edition of Numismatic Chronicle, indicates Ptolemy continued to strike coins in the name of Alexander for several years after his accession.
