Antoninianus of Postumus

Jotapian

Dated Antoninianus of Postumus AD 259 (COS I) Radiate, cuirassed bust right. IMP C POSTVMVS PF AVG Rev: Emperor stg left holding globe (?) & spear (P)M TR(P C)OS I PI - final sector of legend blundered. This coin conforms to RIC Vol V Pt II 53 (Lugdunum). The style of the bust has greater stylistic affinities to the Aes coinage rather than the Antoninianii of Postumus - and that this is an early portrait of Postumus is given credence by the dating (COS I) to the very start of the reign.
