Pella Mint, struck circa 336-328 BC in the Name of Philip II under his son Alexander III "the Great". From Alexander’s first silver coinage at Pella ! Head of Zeus facing to right, wearing a laurel-wreath. Rev. ΦIΛIΠ-ΠOY, young male rider, naked and holding a palm-branch and reins, on a horse pacing to right, wreath below. Le Rider 384 var. (D200/R– [unlisted rev. die]); SNG München -; SNG Alpha Bank -; SNG Saroglos -. PROBABLY UNIQUE !!! SPLENDID and EXTREMELY RARE Portrait of ZEUS in one of the FINEST HELLENISTIC STYLES of the Period. Good Extremely Fine (despite minor deposits), with lovely iridescent Tone. Probably UNIQUE because of the unlisted Reverse Die !!! A very lovely specimen. EXTREMELY RARE with Wreath as Symbol and with this SPLENDID ZEUS Portrait in one of the BEST and FINEST HELLENISTIC STYLES for Tetradrachms in the Name of Philip II !!! Ex.
