Philip II (359-336 BC), AR Tetradrachm (23mm, 14.15 g, 12h). Pella Mint, struck circa 336-328 BC in the Name of Philip II under his son Alexander III "the Great". From Alexander’s first silver coinage at Pella ! Head of Zeus facing to right, wearing a laurel-wreath. Rev. ΦIΛIΠ-ΠOY, young male rider, naked and holding a palm-branch and reins, on a horse pacing to right, Kantharos below. Le Rider pl. 15, 343 (RR). SPLENDID Portrait of ZEUS in one of FINEST HELLENISTIC STYLES of the Period. Struck in high relief on brad flan with amazing old Cabinet Tone. Good Very Fine. A very lovely specimen.
