Maximinus II, AE Follis, 313?, Heraclea, Officina 3

BeastCoins

Maximinus II, AE Follis, 313?, Heraclea, Officina 3 IMP C GAL VAL MAXIMINVS P F AVG Laureate head right, parallel laurel ties IOVI CONS_ERVATORI Jupiter standing facing, head left, chlamys across shoulders and spread behind, Victory on globe in right hand, scepter in left G in right field SMHT in exergue 20mm x 22mm, 5.61g RIC VI, -- Note: This reverse legend is not listed in RIC for this type. It is from an unlisted series after Maximinus II captured Heraclea in April 313 and before the battle with Licinius that same month, so perhaps this series was only made for a few weeks. Also, the reverse style with Jupiter and spread chlamys is not known from Heraclea, but is similar to the style found at Nicomedia. Another unusual characteristic is the heavy weight - it falls in the standard of folles from 311 (6.00g-4.75g) instead of the later pieces (4.50g-3.50g) in 313.
