Antoninianus of Florian - Securitas seated left

Jotapian

Antoninianus of Florian AD 276. Mint Siscia. IMP C M AN FLORIANVS P AVG. RIC legend 2. Radiate, draped & cuirassed bust right. SECVRITAS SAECVLI XXIQ in exergue. Securitas seated left, holding sceptre & resting elbow on back of chair with hand raised to head. CNG allotted this coin as RIC Vol V Pt1 No 105 (Siscia)Variety. However, 105 records Securitas standing not seated. But the seated variety is recorded at Ticinum - See RIC Vol V Pt 1 No 95 Apart from the Mintmark the style of the lettering, with the A & V very wide at base or apex, is typical of Siscia. Strangely RIC states that Siscia's output of Antoninianii was small and yet without exception examples are rated as 'common'. Bought from CNG Electronic Auction May 2000; Lot 59376
